We are honored to be a part of this dedicated, caring committee. We feel proud giving something back to the community for all that they have done to keep our son’s and brother’s spirit alive, reaching out to help others in their time of need in Bill’s name.
WHY The Bill Sugra Memorial Fund was established in memory of Bill Sugra, a compassionate, caring and loving young man whose life was tragically taken by the terrorist acts of September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center in New York City. Family and friends desired to honor Bill's memory by starting a charitable fund that would help make a positive impact on the lives of those in need of encouragement and support.
PURPOSE The fund's mission is to assist the needy and disadvantaged to improve their lives during times of difficulty, regardless of geographic location, race, religion, or gender. Annually, the Bill Sugra Memorial Fund donates money to local non-profit agencies through a grant application process.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS The Bill Sugra Memorial Fund has flourished over the past sixteen years. With the help of the Memorial Fund Committee, which administers this non-profit fund, we have been able to donate $675,902 to organizations and individuals in the community.

GOLF TOURNAMENT The Bill Sugra Memorial Golf Outing is the primary means of procuring funds for the Bill Sugra Memorial Fund. The outing is truly a labor of love and effort, and could not be run without the dedication and support of family and friends and the financial backing of generous sponsors. Usually held the weekend before Labor Day, the outing promotes fun, fellowship and a good time rather than a hard and fast competition.
We have had successful outings over the first thirteen years due, in part, to the participation of our honorary chairs Father Dan Gambet O.S.F. (10 years), Tony Muir (8 years), Mimi Griffin (3rd year), Mark Lieberman (4th year), Mike Guman (1st year) and the tireless efforts of our volunteers. This year 2015, we have 2 new co-chairs joining Father Gambet they are J.B. Reilly and Joseph Topper, Jr. We have settled in at Green Pond Country Club where we have an afternoon shotgun start featuring 140 golfers followed by dinner and awards. We also sponsor a morning event for children from The First Tee Program, Embrace Your Dreams and The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Easton, who receive instruction from area golf pros.
We were able to raise $675,902 over 16 years due to sponsorships, as well as in-kind support. Sponsorships for the event are critical to continue the success of the Bill Sugra Memorial Golf Outing. Participating sponsors are provided with excellent exposure and continued support throughout the year.
We usually have mixed emotions on that day, since the outing is around the anniversary of the tragic event. It’s an extremely difficult time for our family, but we look so forward to seeing and being surrounded by friends and family at this time. We truly find it to be an uplifting and wonderful event in honor of our son and brother.
The leaves of autumn are covered by the snows of winter, but the leaves will return in the spring. The waves of the sea break upon the shore and then slide back into the sea to become the waves once again. There is nothing in this life that is without its cycle of life, death and rebirth.
The butterfly is one of God's finest images of the gift of new life, emerging from its dark cocoon to its new splendor and glory, beautiful to behold and symbolizing the magnificent mystery of springtime that out of seeming death comes new life.
The memory of Bill Sugra is very much like the butterfly. He loved life and loved each and every person whose life he touched. He helped us all emerge from our gray moments by the light he spread with his smile and his caring and his love. Because he cared, he lifted us up.
We chose the butterfly as a symbol on our brochures and letterheads for the Bill Sugra Memorial Fund because of his memory we strive to bring the hope to the hopeless, confidence to the discouraged, and new life to the depressed.
